Jon Krakauer's father - Set high standards for all of his kids during their childhood. Wanted Jon to go to medical school and become a doctor. He suffered from post-polio syndrome and began self-medicating himself. When he tried killing himself, he wanted to be sure that Jon was there to witness it. After the suicide attempt he was put into a psychiatric hospital.
